Jana Simmons named President of the Association of Biochemistry Educators

As of May 2019, Jana Simmons took over as the President of the Association of Biochemistry Educators (ABE) for an elected term lasting until May 2021.

The ABE consists of over 140 members from schools of medicine, pharmacy and dentistry and meets biennially to discuss innovations in biochemistry teaching to health professions students and to share ideas about education scholarship. In May of this year, 82 institutions of higher learning throughout North America and the Caribbean were represented at the biennial meeting in Tucson, AZ. Between conferences, the organization maintains several ongoing projects, via standing committees, to enhance biochemistry education support and resources and to promote professional development for its membership.  The ABE has published approved learning objectives in the field of biochemistry for health professional education as well as a peer-vetted question bank that can be used to assess achievement of those objectives.  The question bank is available through the organization’s website only to members of the ABE.
