New Student Orientation Graduate Student position

The department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) is seeking a graduate student for a part-time position assisting with advising incoming freshmen and transfer students at New Student Orientation (NSO). This is a summer, hourly position.  

NSO dates are Monday through Thursday, June 6th – July 22nd.  Time commitment is approximately 20 hours: tentatively 9am-12pm Monday through Thursday, plus 6-8 additional hours per week planned in the afternoon.  Preferred start day would be in May but this date is negotiable.  

The position will be fully remote, and reliable internet and webcam are required.  

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing one on one academic advising to incoming freshmen and transfer students; maintain confidential records; work collaboratively with (BMB) department advisors and student assistants; enter student information; and utilizing digital systems such as Google Drive, Excel ESAF, Campus Solutions, and Zoom to facilitate advising interactions, and.   

Desired qualifications include: strong interpersonal communication, active listening skills, dependability, desire to interact with and build community with new MSU students, interest in providing a holistic approach to student advising, encompassing students of all backgrounds and experiences.
