Dr. Mark Sutton
Dr. Mark D. Sutton is a Professor of Biochemistry in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. He received his Ph.D. in Dr. Jon Kaguni’s lab where he worked on the genetic and biochemical analysis of DnaA protein to understand how this protein starts chromosomal DNA replication in Escherichia coli. Currently, the Sutton laboratory utilizes powerful combinations of genetics with in vitro biochemical and biophysical approaches that answer important biological questions with respect to the ways in which a living cell copes with DNA damage, particularly during DNA replication. These studies may lead to novel approaches to prevent or treat late-onset diseases in humans.
