Dr. Marcos Túlio Oliveira

Dr. Marcos Túlio Oliveira received his PhD in Genetics from Michigan State University in 2011 under the mentorship of Dr. Laurie Kaguni on his project “Roles of the Mitochondrial Single-Stranded DNA-Binding Protein at the Mitochondrial DNA Replication Fork.” Dr. Oliveira did his undergraduate work in Biology and his masters in Genetics and Molecular Biology at State University of Campinas in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil.

From MSU, Dr. Oliveira went on to do a postdoctoral fellowship in the Mitochondrial Genetics-Mitochondrial Biology Group, University of Tampere in Tampere, Finland. His project “Investigating the Roles of Respiratory Chain Alternative Enzymes in Animals” was done under the guidance of Dr. Howard Jacobs.

Dr. Oliveira is currently an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Department of Technology - FCAV, São Paulo State University - in Jaboticabal, São Paulo Brazil. He currently studies tissue-specific aspects of mitochondrial DNA maintenance and how the expression of the alternative oxidase can affect the developmental metabolism of Drosophila melanogaster.
