Peter Dornbos

Peter completed his PhD research under the guidance of Dr. John LaPres. The goal of his dissertation was to use a population-based approach to characterize the impact of genetic heterogeneity within response to an environmental contaminant called 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). A mixture of in vitro and in vivo-based methods were employed to quantify the variability in response to TCDD across heterogeneous individuals and to identify genetic modulators of TCDD-induced immunosuppression and alterations in liver homeostasis. Peter will continue his research in the lab of Dr. Jason Flannick at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and Boston Children's Hospital. His future research will focus on the use of genomic sequencing data to gain insights into complex diseases with a focus on metabolic disorders, such as type 2 diabetes.
